Classmate Profile:
Brian Trexel




Brian attended UCSD Muir College after graduating from Madison. He earned a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and went on to earn a Master's degree in mechanical engineering from SDSU. Brian has applied his impressive academic credentials toward becoming a highly-respected expert in satellite communications and signal compression technology. He began working at M/A-Com Linkabit on video scrambling technology while still in college and subsequently moved on to work at ComStream where he began his work in satellite communications in earnest. He continued his career at Tiernan Communications where his work had an added emphasis on signal compression. While at Tiernan, Brian served as a consultant to NBC for satellite communication needs for the broadcast of the Games of the XXV Olympiad held in Barcelona, Spain. He eventually became head of operations at Tiernan. Brian then moved on to Filmetrics, a firm specializing in products for the measurement of thin films & coatings for use in silicon wafer fabrication facilities. (Filmetrics was founded by fellow Class of 1978 alumni, Dr. Scott Chalmers, PhD). After completing his objectives at Filmetrics, Brian returned to the communications industry. He currently works at Radyne ComStream as Director, Video Products.

Brian is an avid runner, waterskier and fisherman. He is also a devoted family man. Brian resides in San Diego with his wife, Tracey, and their three children: Mandy, Eric and Tori. (Profile written May 2003)
