Classmate Profile:
Hedy (Hodge) Klein
I havent done anything as illustrious as make a million yet, or retire, but I am still married with 4 wonderful kids and a beautiful granddaughter. This is a major accomplishment in itself. My husband, Matt, and I have been together for almost 20 years. No he didnt go to Madison, but I did meet him through classmate Jeff Strunk, who was his roommate. It was truly love at first sight and we have lived together since the day we met. We have 2 daughters (twins), Ashleigh and Brittany, who are 13, and 2 sons, Nicolas (21) and Christopher (23). We also have a granddaughter, Kaylie, who is 6 months. After graduation I moved to L.A. for about 6 years, and also, to England for a little while. My ex-husband is English, and so my sojourn to England. I returned to San Diego, and shortly after that met Matt. We still live in Clairemont, right next door to Mike Silva and Kendra Johnson. I am currently a manager at Ralphs in Mission Valley, and Matt has worked for Parron Hall Office Interiors for 17 years now. Our daughters attend Kroc Middle School, (formerly Einstein Jr. High), and they will attend Madison. They are both joys in life. They both perform in the Madison/Kroc choir. Our sons both attended Madison and our oldest, Chris, moved to Solvang shortly after attending Madison and he is now the auditor at the Royal Scandinavian Inn in Solvang. Our other son, Nicolas, got married in 2001 to our daughter-in-law, Jessie. They had their first child in April. Nicolas is a Petty Officer 3rd class on the USS Pelileu. Currently, they are out on the first Amphibious Assault deployment of its kind. We are very proud that he is serving our country in these trying times. Our granddaughter, Kaylie, is of course one of our great joys and little did we know what it means to love a grandchild. Its a whole new world. We all love to travel, especially cross-country, to show our kids this great place called, America. Matt & I also take a trip alone once a year, to keep that ole spark alive. We have been to Haiti, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the Virgin Islands. Anywhere it is tropical, we are there!! In 1994, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and was given 6 months, (they didnt know me very well). I have gone through a mastectomy, chemo, stem cell transplant and radiation. I am still here!! Thank God I am not in blue on the class page! Through this journey I learned all the expected life lessons like how life is too short, and dont sweat the small stuff. I also became a huge cancer advocate and I do a lot of keynote speaking for ACS, Stars & Strides, and have also been featured on Discovery Channel. I also found a huge need prior to my reconstruction (which I just had) for glamorous clothes for women that have had mastectomies. So, my business partner, Amber Wasson, and I created "Ahhh Clothing." We design and create clothing for women with needs similar to those that I found I had. My life has been exciting, and I feel successful overall. My husband and I share so much, my kids are all happy, healthy and successful. I hope you all are well. E-mail if you want to get in touch. It has been great to rekindle old relationships. The 25 year reunion was a blast and I hope to see so many more of you at the 30!
