Classmate Profile:
Joaquin Picazo
After graduation I continued to race motocross professionally. A few years later, I suffered a career-ending accident which left me a paraplegic. After my accident, I went to work at our family operated business in San Diego, and also, attended Mesa College. A few years later, I was accepted to the Walker Institute for Physical Therapy. It was there that I took my first steps with long leg braces. This accomplishment was featured nationally on the Sally Jesse Raphael Show. A couple of years later, I decided to move to Mexico to accomplish a personal goal: to learn to speak Spanish. While I was in Mexico, I started teaching English as a Second Language. I really enjoyed helping the students. Also, since I had studied business in school, and had grown up watching my father operate his business, I decided to open up my own business in Monterrey, Mexico. In 1998, I decided to return home. I realized I had met my objectives, and well, there is no place like home! I am currently the Tennis Director for San Diego. In 2003, I participated in, and directed, a wheelchair tennis tournament held at the Balboa Tennis Center in Balboa Park. I am single and currently reside in Las Vegas, Nevada. I work at the Ability Center in the Sales and Marketing Department. (Profile updated March 2005) Find out what's new with many of our other classmates by attending our next Reunion! |
