Classmate Profile:
Pete Perez

After a short stint at SDSU where I discovered I'm not hard-wired like most, I adopted the motto of 'gotta ski' before it became fashionable. I moved to Lake Tahoe for 5 years. I found my way out of that particular rabbit hole to wander aimlessly for the next few years on a scenic return trip back to good ol' SD! I started to build a life, GOT JESUS at Horizon Christian Fellowship, just a stone's throw away from our ol' campus, met my soon-to-be wife, Michelle. Our meeting started me on a wholly unexpected journey, discovering a new language (she is deaf).

I became a travel agent for 11 years, 'cause I GOTTA TRAVEL! I became a reserve firefighter for 2 years in East County SD for San Miguel Fire District. After realizing most of my 'wannabes' from childhood, I was finally ready to hand the reins over to my Creator, and have Him call the shots for awhile. That decision resulted in 10 years of marital and familial bliss, along with a lot of stretching and molding and tearing down, and building back up, with a little bit of sorrow and turmoil mixed in. All to culminate in being prepared for the mission field which we are imminently embarking upon. My family and I plan to travel together throughout the US, Canada, and Alaska for 1 year. We are leaving next week. (week of Sep 19, 2004)

We are promoting a new web-based ministry, Revival.tv, through mobile advertising graphics applied to the RV. We will be traveling to different churches along the way, encouraging others to bring down the walls in our nation that seem to reach the highest on Sunday mornings, Michelle will be signing the song, 'I Can Only Imagine', so we will be co-ministering along the way. I am also recruiting 'point-men' in each church we visit to carry the torch in a ministry called, Christian Mentors (a Christian-based Big Brothers ministry, mentoring young men who are orphaned or are from single-parent households). If anyone is interested, please email us at amperez1000@yahoo.com, and we will send you our website address, containing a pictorial and day-by-day journal of our adventure.

Home base for my family is San Jacinto, CA (exactly 74.3 miles from Madison). I enjoy building and flying ultralight aircraft, hiking (not enough), skiing (not nearly enough) and traveling. Michelle and I have two daughters, Savannah 9, soft and sensitive; Miranda 7, brilliant and eager; both home schooled and soon-to-be 'road-schooled'(is that what it means to be a road scholar?)

P.S. Well, we have finally landed from the 14 month trek around this GRRRRREAT nation of ours just before Thanksgiving '05, and would love to share our tales and adventures with my fellow Warhawks! The easiest way would be to visit our blog at www.roadscholarsforChrist.com (site no longer active), where we have over 1500 of our best pix (out of the 8000+, isn't digital just lovely?) and where my wife Michelle was faithful to journal every day of the trip. So grab your high-speed connection and go on an armchair tour of this great promised land with us, and happy trails!

We have been recycled back to our original home in Escondido, which we have been renovating since we got back, to finally have that 'mini dream home' we always talked about, our extreme makeover, inside and out. Downside is we can truly call ourselves 'trailer-trash' now, with the rig parked in the driveway, and no new majestic scenes to wake up to every morning. No griping now, come on! We have been truly blessed, and continue to be, with a season of rest, before the next big adventure. Hope to run into any of you on the trail!

LATEST UPDATE: Started new job, new biz, and new ministry all in one week! I am now acting President of Christian Mentors, a faith-based volunteer mentoring organization that is currently reaching national levels of exposure. It serves as a matching engine, much like a computer dating website, with obvious differences. I know of many of you who would qualify as stellar candidates to pass on your 'life skills' to a child in need of direction. Or possibly you have a need for mentoring for your child. We provide abundant safeguards to protect your children in the process. Check it out at www.ChristianMentors.org . See y'all at the reunion!
